LOS ANGELES: Hollywood actress and singer Lindsay Lohan has candidly discussed the challenges of being typecast in her career, attributing it to growing up in the public eye. Despite her early success, she revealed that breaking away from her teen-star image has been an ongoing struggle.
In a recent interview with Variety, Lohan admitted, “Yeah, I do (think I was pigeonholed). I was so thrilled to work on ‘A Prairie Home Companion’ and yet even today I have to fight for roles like that, which is frustrating. Because, well, you know me as this, but you also know I can do that.”
Speaking to The Times U.K., she emphasized her determination to redefine her career: “So let me! Give me the chance. I have to break that cycle and open doors to something else, leaving people no choice. And in due time, if Martin Scorsese reaches out, I’m not going to say no.”
From Child Star to Hollywood Hiatus
Lohan began acting as a child, landing her breakout role at age 12 in Disney’s The Parent Trap (1998). She quickly rose to fame in the early 2000s with iconic films like Mean Girls (2004), Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen (2004), and Herbie: Fully Loaded (2005). However, as her stardom grew, so did media scrutiny over her personal life, leading to a career pause in the late 2000s.
Reflecting on her decision to step back, Lohan shared, *“I wanted to take a minute. I was losing that feeling of excitement about doing a film, and I wanted to live my own life for a bit, figure out how to have a more private life, a real life. I wanted to wait to get that itch again.”*
The Comeback: ‘Freakier Friday’ and Beyond
After years away from Hollywood, Lohan made a gradual return, starring in Netflix’s Falling for Christmas (2022) and Irish Wish (2024). Now, she’s set for a major comeback alongside Jamie Lee Curtis in Freakier Friday, the sequel to their beloved 2003 body-swap comedy Freaky Friday.
The new film, set to release on August 8, 2025, introduces a “multigenerational twist”, with Lohan’s character, Anna, now a mother. The project marks a full-circle moment for the actress, reigniting excitement among fans.
As Lohan continues to push for more mature and diverse roles, her journey serves as a testament to resilience in an industry often reluctant to let stars evolve. With Freakier Friday on the horizon and her determination stronger than ever, Hollywood may soon see a new chapter in Lindsay Lohan’s career.
